Google Local has replaced Google Places - Business Owners & Law Firms MUST Get Aboard!
As of Wednesday, May 30, 2012 Google has officially pulled the plug on Google Places and brought in under the tutelage of Google’s new primary obsession and focus: Google+
Google Places has been entirely changed out by new Google Local pages. Some 80 million Google Places accounts were converted to 80 million Google Local pages. Business owners following Google+ and Google+ Pages for business saw the transition coming, and must now embrace it, learn about its far-reaching purposes and make sure to adapt to the change as a willing participant or be left in the rear-view mirror. We have had a few clients who experienced some rough patches, but were able to contact Google and have new verification postcards mailed to their proper address and repair some inaccurate “prior address” confusion that they experienced in the transition.
Transition Upshot? – Google has apparently allocated tremendous resources at making certain that Google Local will be well-received and any problems that may crop up are being addressed professionally and efficiently.

The Progression and Unveiling of the all-encompassing Google+ platform
Google+ was unveiled to Beta testers on June 28th, 2011 and then released to the general public 3 months later on September 20, 2011. Google+ Pages for business, which are the equivalent of Facebook Fan Pages, was let out of the barn on November 7, 2011 which enable a business to hook-up with “fans” and supporters. Shrewd business owners could see the writing on the wall and were anticipating when Google might merge the very popular Google Places under the Google+ Pages umbrella. That buzz and anticipation was realized on May 30th of 2012. It is now about a year later as we are rehashing the phenomenal progress of the Google+ roll out that will surely change all of our lives —even if we don’t see it coming— nor acknowledge its impact on our lives: especially if we are in business, rely on the Internet for exposure, and desire to be well-received and treated by Google Search.
Google Local integrate maps and business listings into the Google+ platform
Google did not just change the name of Google Places to Google Local, the change is amazingly comprehensive in scope and purpose. For purposes of simplicity, Google Local will better integrate Google Maps and Google’s Business Listings into the Google+ platform with a comprehensive attempt to consolidate online identities and verify the identities of Google-friendly users so that Google can better verify people, business entities and more assuredly share Google verified persons and businesses with their search customers. Professionals and business owners (including law firms) need to step out in faith and help Google gain that Google-verified-trust in you. Come on…, they know your most intimate secrets, your stealthy interactions, your birth date, your SS#, and even your boxer or bra size already — so why not go ahead and play along if growing your business or law practice is high on your bucket list.
Take proactive steps to ensure Google Verification of your Google Local Account.
If you have set up a Google+ Business Page you will be encouraged to link your Google Local Map Listing to your Google+ Business Page. Google Local maps listings are hugely important for brick and mortar stores and service providers such as our Law Firm clientele who rely on Google to provide addresses, directions to their stores or offices, phone numbers, links to their (now Google+ verified) websites, and so on. There is so much going on here we could petition the university to offer full semester courses on each of the new Google+ products and how businesses and professional had better take each and every one that pertains to them seriously.
